Our Investments

Girl Up invests the dollars you raise into United Nations programs that serve adolescent girls in developing countries. Programs that help girls thrive look different in different countries. The money you raise or donate will go directly towards things like:

lantern

Solar Lanterns. Light from a solar lantern means a girl in a refugee camp in Ethiopia will be able to study in the evening.

health.png

Health Information. Counselors and peer educators provide information to keep girls healthy and reduce teen pregnancy.

School Supplies. School materials and uniforms ensure girls enrolled in school can stay in school.

girlsclubs.png

Girls-Only Clubs. Academic and social clubs provide the space for girls to learn and grow outside of the classroom.

scholarship.png

Scholarships. Scholarships for high-achieving girls provide them with the opportunity to continue with higher education.

Leadership Training. Ongoing training classes help girls develop business skills and be leaders in their communities.

Trained Teachers. The recruitment and training of female teachers helps more girls receive a quality education.

Sports Uniforms. Clothing and equipment help girls develop their leadership and social skills through sports.

Latrines and Dormitories. Construction of girl-friendly spaces, including washrooms, means girls are less likely to drop out of school.

Our Impact

Since the campaign launched in 2010, Girl Up has impacted the lives of more than 20,000 girls in developing countries. Read the stories of a few of these girls to learn more.

• Namda - from the Sheder refugee camp in Ethiopia, Namda hopes to become an economist.

• Tania - with a second chance to receive an education, Tania is thriving in Guatemala.

• Nasttho - a strong survivor and Somali refugee is now reaching her full potential.

• Keyli - the challenges of being an indigenous girl in Guatemala have not shaken Keyli's confidence.
